Roagna is one of Piedmont’s top producers, known for their complex, aromatic cuvées produced from long macerations and Slavonian oak aging. The estate has long roots in the commune of Barbaresco, having been started very early in the twentieth century by Vincenzo Roagna. Today the property is run by Luca Roagna, the fifth generation of the family.
Organically-farmed fruit is sourced from a one-hectare vineyard in the town of Montemarzino in the Colli Tortonesi area. Hand-harvested. Most of the vines are around 35 years old with some much older and a few younger where they had to replace diseased or dying vines. This wine is ethereal and light on its feet. Luca Roagna manages to coax a level of textural finesse that is not typical of Timorasso, while retaining the grape's phenolic feel. Mint, dried lemon peel, almond, sage, lime and yellow flavors all develop in this savory, vibrant dry white.
