In 2013, Winemaker friends Fredi Torres and Marc Lecha launched Lectores Vini with six hectares of vines set in the pristine Priorat region, in Catalonia. This area is recognized for its production of premium Garnacha and Carignan wines. The steep, rocky vineyard sites offer excellent drainage for the vines but present challenges to wine growers who must harvest and work the land without machinery, instead doing everything by hand or with the help of livestock. Lectores Vini is winery dedicated to the expression of terroir and indigenous varietals and farming is all organic.
Fruit comes from a single vineyard called Finca Roca Crespa, located on a historic property dating back to 996 in Cubelles which is in the Coastal zone of the Penedes. The vines are a mix of Xarello and Xarello Vermell (a red-skinned version of Xarello). From very old vines (80-90 years old) as well as some younger ones (20 years old). Fruit was de-stemmed, pressed directly, then fermented with native yeasts in stainless steel tank. The wine aged for 6 months on the fine lees in stainless steel. Lightly filtered with very low sulfur.
A fresh and aromatic wine, with notes of apple and almonds, as well as tropical fruit and citrus. Light and juicy, with lovely texture.
