Type: Red Wine
A unique bottling from Hirotake Ooka of Domaine de La Grande Colline who works 3.8 hectares of vines throughout the Northern Rhône, this is a 100% Syrah from a .5 hectare vineyard site. Grapes are hand-harvested from 25 year-old vines planted in granitic soil. Whole-cluster fermentation begins with a 15-20 day carbonic maceration and is followed by a spontaneous fermentation in barrel, kickstarted by native yeasts. The wine then ages for 24 months in old barrels. Unfined, unfiltered, no added sulfur.
Almost Burgundian in style. Ripe earthy notes of blackberries and raspberries, with a touch of pepper spice, there is ample acidity and a lightness of tannins, leading into a soft finish.
