Natural winemaker Craig Haarmeyer makes this wine at his Sacramento, California winery. This wine is grown at the Sutter Ranch Vineyard deep in the Clarksburg AVA. Young vines. Sand and clay and marine breezes sculpt this vineyard, producing a refreshing dry wine that retains all of the varietal characteristics of Chenin Blanc. Foot tread, pressed to tank, spontaneous fermentation, racked to barrel and tank.
This wine opens with aromas of crushed oyster shell, cilantro, lemon peel and lanolin. Crisp, and lean on the palate with a lovely chalky minerality. Craig Haarmeyer has been obsessed with Chenin for as long as we have known him and from his grizzled, rough appearance emerges a thoughtful winemaker on a lifelong study of this mysterious grape, wherever it takes him.
