The Bernabeleva estate is located just outside Madrid, at high altitude in the hills of San Martín de Valdeiglesias, which can yield distinctly higher-quality wines than the rest of this interior zone. Using organic/biodynamic methods, the family estate, now in its 4th generation, makes several different 100% Grenache wines.
The 80 year-old vines stretch their roots out through the thin infertile sandy soils here, formed from decomposed granite. The Navaherreros Tinto is Grenache taken from the vineyard's oldest, best plots. 25 day maceration with some whole-cluster. A minimal intervention, wild fermentation takes place in a combination of stainless steel, concrete and large wood vats. Aged for 6 months in large upright old wooden vats and stainless steel. The wine is bottled unfined and unfiltered.
Intensely floral, with aromatic notes of black cherry, raspberry and spice. Fresh and energetic fruit in the mouth, with sweet red berry flavors and soft tannins.
