G.D. Vajra was founded in 1972 by husband and wife Aldo and Milena Vaira. When Aldo inherited almost 100 acres of vineyards in Vergne, the highest village in the commune of Barolo, he broke with family tradition and began producing wines under his own label. G.D. Vajra remains a family-run business: the winery was named after Aldo's father, Giuseppe Domenico, and Aldo and Milena work with their daughter Francesca and sons, Giuseppe and Isidoro.
This wine is a tribute to a traditional Barolo method from the 1600's, which calls for bottling shortly after fermentation and using 25% whole cluster grapes. Giuseppe Vajra decided to bring back this former style after a conversation with a wine historian.
A fresh, vibrant and delicious wine with notes of cherry, wild strawberries, orange blossom, and a touch of spice. Particularly good on a warm day, served lightly chilled.
