In 2013, Winemaker friends Fredi Torres and Marc Lecha launched Lectores Vini with six hectares of vines set in the pristine Priorat region, in Catalonia. This area is recognized for its production of premium Garnacha and Carignan wines. The steep, rocky vineyard sites offer excellent drainage for the vines but present challenges to wine growers who must harvest and work the land without machinery, instead doing everything by hand or with the help of livestock. Lectores Vini is winery dedicated to the expression of terroir and indigenous varietals and farming is all organic.
Pomagrana is a testament to the rich viticultural heritage and the vibrant modern wine scene the region represents. The fruit is hand-harvested, fully destemmed, and set to macerate in contact with the skins for about two weeks. The juice is pressed away from the solids and fermented with native yeasts in stainless steel tanks. When the fermentation is complete, the wine rests in contact with the lees, to add depth and complexity before being filtered.
Aromas of cherries, raspberries, and red currants, along with Mediterranean herbs, damp earth, and a touch of black pepper. Medium-bodied profile, with red fruits, violet, licorice, and a touch of leather. The wine's well-structured tannins and balanced acidity lead into a long finish with notes of ripe fruit, spices, and a delightful earthy undertone. This wine is delicious lightly chilled or as is.
