Folk Machine is a wine label launched in 2005 by California winemaker Kenny Likitprakong of Hobo Wine Company. He sources grapes from dozens of different vineyards across Northern California, from Mendocino to Santa Cruz, focusing on the production of minimal-intervention, approachable wines from organically farmed vineyards.
The vines for this Gamay Noir were planted/grafted with the Chesboro family at Cedar Lane in Arroyo Seco about 10 years ago. Soils are typical for the area, very sandy/alluvial with generally moderate temperatures, with wind, similar to Carneros in the North Bay.
Fermented 50% whole cluster till dry, then pressed to neutral 500L puncheons. Aged on the lees, then racked about a month before being bottled unfiltered and unfined. Peppery, crunchy, earthy and floral. This is a light to medium-bodied wine that goes down a little too easy.
