Australian David Fletcher grew up in Adelaide and was destined for a career in engineering before fate led him in a different direction. After stints working in Burgundy and various wine regions in Australia, he felt increasingly drawn to Piedmont. He moved to the region in 2012 to take up a job as winemaker at Piedmont’s Ceretto winery. Today he also makes wines under his own label, Fletcher Wines, from his home base in Barbaresco’s former train station, where he lives with his young family. Fletcher makes a number of different wines, from classic Barbaresco to Langhe Chardonnay to a skin-contact blend of Arneis and Moscato.
50% of the vineyards Fletcher works with are certified organic and the rest are under conversion to organic. Not wanting to contribute to an ever increasing mono-culture in the Langhe, he offsets the land used for his grape production with ownership of the equivalent area in Forest, swamp and grasslands rich in biodiversity. Fletcher uses 100% spontaneous fermentation but with a 'pied de cuve' method. He uses old wood in the form of Barriques and Botte Grande. He does not filter his wines or use fining agents.
Rich and complex, Faset is a single-vineyard Barbaresco that strikes a stunning balance between elegance and power. Aged in oak for two years and bottled unfined and unfiltered. Extremely limited production.
