Patrick Bouju started Domaine La Bohème in 1998 in the village of Glaine-Montaigut in the Auvergne region. He has several small plots of vines around his village, with some vines aging 120 years. Patrick does everything himself, from working the organic vineyards by horse to bottling, labeling, and bookkeeping.
Made from Gamay grapes sourced from biodynamically farmed vineyards in the southern Beaujolais crus of Brouilly and Moulin-à-Vent, the vines are deeply rooted in granite and basalt soils, lending the wine its distinctive minerality. The winemaking process involves whole-cluster fermentation in amphorae, allowing for gentle extraction and preservation of the grape's vibrant character. The wine is bottled unfined and unfiltered.
Aromas of red and dark berries with subtle vegetal notes. On the palate, flavors of ripe raspberry, cherry, and cranberry. Fine tannins and an acidic backbone lead into a long and lively finish.
