Domaine Mosse

Domaine Mosse is a leading natural wine producer in the Loire Valley, particularly known for their mastery of Chenin Blanc and Cabernet Franc. Brothers Sylvestre and Joseph Mosse took over the Domaine from their parents, Agnès & Rene Mosse in 2018, and have been having fun creating new cuvées from their own estate fruit as well as with purchased grapes through the family's négociant license.. They farm their grapes organically, with biodynamic practices having been incorporated since 2001. In their area of Anjou Noir (so named because of the dark color of the soils of slate and volcanic rocks), the soils are shallow, with subsoils of schist and sandstone, and varying amounts of clay on the surface.
It has always been important to the family to vinify in a natural fashion, and they are particularly attentive to minimizing manipulations and the use of sulfur. They use only indigenous yeasts. All the wines are barrel-fermented and aged. The whites usually go through their malolactic fermentation. The barrels are renewed as needed, but are always older as to not impart oak flavors. In the cellar. Their wines are bottled unfined and unfiltered, and very little sulfur is used.
