Grape: Cortese
Matt Crutchfield got his start working in tasting rooms in Shenandoah Valley Virginia and wine bars in Charleston before heading to Sonoma to work a harvest. One harvest turned into 6 (plus a stint in New Zealand) and Matt knew that he belonged in the cellar.
Matt now works as assistant winemaker at Ryme Cellars n Forestville, CA. It was Ryan and Megan Glaab, the Ryme principals, who pushed him to make his own wine. His first vintage was 2021. He works exclusively with organic grapes, focusing on white and orange wines from the same grape variety with as minimal intervention as possible. Representation is deeply important to Matt and he is proud to have started a business with which he can encourage people who look like him to delve into wine.
The soft skins of Cortese make this an approachable orange wine with low tannin. Concentrated tropical fruit profile with notes of hibiscus flower, mango, and a salty, mango skin palate.
