Founded in 2012 by Laura Brennan Bissell, Inconnu is focused on highlighting the subtlety and elegance that is possible in California wine, through an integration of terroir selection and a respect for classical winemaking philosophies. Laura is focused on working with organic and regeneratively farmed parcels in California, seeking out cooler climates and areas with greater diurnal shifts, complex soil compositions, and family owned parcels. Harvest is done by hand, and in the cellar, she takes a gentle approach, allowing the fruit to express itself without heavy-handed interventions. Inconnu's wines are driven by acidity and minerality, while embracing the perfect ripeness that California's climate can provide.
The Merlot & Cabernet Franc are grown on decomposed granite soils in the Sierra Foothills, which lends minerality to the blend. There’s a sanguinity from the Clarksburg riverside soils for the blend’s Cabernet Sauvignon that balances with Merlot’s innate fruit forward cherry and spice. The texture and weight have a mid-palate silkiness. Red fruit aromas and on the palate, with earthy undertones leading to silky tannins and a lingering but restrained finish.
