Simon Batardière is part of an exciting young generation of winemakers who are redefining the natural wines of Anjou. Established for several years on the banks of the Layon, Simon now cultivates a few hectares of very old Cabernet Franc vines and Chenin Blanc vines, farming organically, without any synthetic products, pesticides, fungicides or insecticides.
Simon is helped by his wife Lénaïg, and together they carry out all the work in the vineyard. The winemaking is both simple and intuitive. Grapes are harvested manually in small boxes are then vinified as naturally as possible. All wines ferment with indigenous yeasts, and they are neither filtered nor fined. For the most part, aging is done in old French oak barrels but sometimes in vats depending on the desired profile of the wines. Simon quickly attracted attention with his first vintages, Miroir Blanc, Miroir Rouge and Acqualina, and continues to experiment, inspired by the prestigious winegrowers who succeeded him in this little corner of Anjou.
Rocher Des Quarts is a fresh and lively Chenin, with aromas of lemon, apples, minerals, and orchard fruit. Bright acidity on the palate, with lemon zest, citrus, crushed rocks, and herbal notes.
