Type: White Wine
Founded in 1999 by Dominique Lafon, Héritiers du Comte Lafon is his trailblazing, certified organic & biodynamic Mâconnais domaine. Historically, the Mâconnais was known for industrially farmed, volume driven wines. Dominique was the first Cote d’Or producer to invest in the immense potential here, buying higher altitude, old vine parcels with the intention of letting this terroir reach its full potential. He started by converting all of the vineyards to biodynamic farming.
Since the beginning, Dominique has strived to preserve the fruit and minerality of the region by using only larger, neutral wood for the aging of the wines. The result is wines with crisp acidity, good mineral backbone and acidity.
The fruit for this Macon-Villages comes from two plots around the villages of Uchizy and Chardonnay that don’t go into the single vineyard bottlings. The vines are planted in clay and chalk soils that have an average age of 25 years and are situated at an elevation between 650-900 feet above sea level. One third of the blend was aged in stainless steel tank while the other two-thirds spent time in old neutral foudres. Vibrant apple and pear notes, a rounded texture on the medium-bodied palate, and fresh acidity on the clean finish.
