Benjamin Taillandier is based in his family’s hometown of Caunes-Minervois, between the ancient city of Carcassonne and The Montagne Noire. In 2006, he purchased 5.7 hectares of Grenache Noir, Syrah, Cinsault, Terret Gris and began working organically, eventually converting all of it over to biodynamics. Each year he has added a plot to his estate. He works his 9.5 hectares all by hand and is now fully Ecocert certified. Benjamin feels that many of the wines in the Minervois AOC are too concentrated and alcoholic, and works hard to make wines that are lighter, fresher, and lower in alcohol than most average wines from the Languedoc, while still maintaining plenty of character and liveliness.
These are 50 year-old vines. Organic/biodynamic farming. The fruit sees three weeks of skin contact, a style traditional to this area of the Mediterranean coast. The wine ages for nine months in neutral barrels before it is released. Medium-bodied and fresh, with balanced acid and savory floral flavors. Exotic fruits, nuts, and some tannins from prolonged skin contact. Finishes dry and tart.
