After growing up around his father and grandfather’s bulk wine operation in Pachino, he set out to learn the craft at a professional level, working at large wineries in California, Puglia, and Sicily. These experiences gave him technical expertise and perspective, but he was turned off by the industrial scale and commercial style of production. By 2017, he was ready to return home and establish his own small estate, farming 15 hectares of polycultural land with his wife Stefania. For Marino, being close to the vines, and working the land himself, is integral to expressing authenticity and terroir.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eFarming is organic, with only organic cow manure used occasionally as fertilizer and judicious copper and sulfur treatments. All work is done by the Marinos' own hands. They work the soils superfically three times per year, with a simple, mechanical rototiller. The vines are pruned in alberello and tied securely to posts to withstand the constant, strong marine winds. The vineyard is dotted with olive, pomegranate, almond, various citrus and other trees; the Marinos also raise grain, which they mill into flour for pasta, and carob.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp dir=\"ltr\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003e\u003cmeta charset=\"utf-8\"\u003eThis wine is made of 95% Nero d'Avola and 5% Pignatello. It sees a short maceration, fermentation in stainless steel, and is aged in concrete.
