The 2019 Santa Ynez Valley Syrah comes from two different sites within 1 mile of each other located in between the towns of Solvang and Santa Ynez: the Pace Vineyard and Valley View Vineyard. Both sites benefit from afternoon breezes that balance the bright, warm, sunny days in the Santa Ynez Valley. The area also benefits from wide swinging shifts in temperature, which helps to retain acidity in the fruit.
This wine undergoes fermentation with native yeast (35% whole-cluster). The Syrah is blended with 5% Viognier and aged in neutral barrels for 10 months before being bottled, unfined and unfiltered.
Dark, peppery and meaty without being heavy. Notes of black pepper, savory cured meats, violets and olive brine, lifted by blackberry notes. Long, powerful finish.
