Montenidoli is located just outside of the famed tower city of San Gimignano on the western border of the Chianti zone in Tuscany. The estate dates back to Roman times and there are stories of the Knights Templar utilizing the property for meetings and ceremonies. Owner Elisabetta Fagiuoli and her husband bought the property in the 60’s, bringing it back to life from its abandoned state. The soil is filled with marine fossils and clay, giving the wines their minerality. The couples’ profound respect for the land has always been the focus.
Farming is organic/biodynamic. Chianti Colli Senesi Il Garullo is a special Chianti, based on the historic Ricasoli Chianti recipe from the 1700’s. It is a co-ferment in cement of Sangiovese, Colorino and Canaiolo along with the white grapes Trebbiano Gentile and Malvasia Bianca. It then ages further time in glass-lined cement followed by time in the bottle. It is a fresh, easy-drinking red wine that displays high-toned fruit and a lively texture. Elisabetta served us this wine chilled with seafood risotto, her favorite way to enjoy it!
