Type: White Wine
Grape: Pinot Gris
Maloof Wines is a husband-and-wife winery team based in Willamette Valley, Oregon, focused on producing single vineyard wines of "often overlooked or misunderstood white varieties," in addition to making some fun and funky cuvées of all colors.
Johan Vineyards is located directly at the mouth of the Van Duzer Corridor. The Van Duzer Corridor is one of the only east to west running “gaps” in the Oregon Coast Range. This gap is the reason that the Willamette Valley is able to grow cool climate grape varieties. The maritime breezes act as a moderating effect where on the hottest days they bring in a cooling factor, and on the coldest days they bring warmth to the valley.
Thistle vineyard is a 27-acre certified organic vineyard toward the top of the Dundee Hills AVA, with southeast exposure. The Maloof block of Pinot Gris is the only in the vineyard that is not trained in the Scott Henry trellising fashion, which they feel brings their wines a higher concentration of flavor. Direct press. Fermented and aged in neutral oak barrels on the lees. Bottled without any fining or filtration.
Clear cut citrus flavors of lime and lemon, with some tropical notes, supported by a creamy mouthfeel and nervy acidity.
