The Ellison Vineyard (formerly the Herron Vineyard), planted in 1969, is an acre and a half of Sauvignon Blanc on Sonoma Mountain. This organic, dry-farmed vineyard is one of the oldest Sauvignon Blanc parcels in the United States. In the fall of 2021 the winery had a COVID scare that split up the team and made for a very challenging pick. It made for a powerful, dense and complex wine. As always, the wine was fermented with its native yeasts in the same neutral oak barrels they use each year specifically for this wine, and aged for eleven months without racking. Just eight barrels were produced.
This is a citrusy, tropical-fruited wine, with prominent notes of lemon and grapefruit peel, briny minerality and just the right amount of tension.
