Les Vins Contes Olivier Lemasson 'Poivre et Sel' + 'R20' 2020 - 8th Anniversary TOFINO WINES

Les Vins Contés started as a grape buying endeavor, but in 2016 Loire Valley legend Olivier Lemasson was able to purchase the vineyards he’d been sourcing from — 9 hectares that he'd been working organically and by hand. From estate vines averaging 40 years old. Vins Contés reds were made similarly: semi-carbonic maceration with whole clusters layered in closed tanks with CO2; co-fermentation with indigenous yeasts only; aging in fiberglass tanks; bottling without fining or filtration in early spring after harvest; no sulfur added at any point.

All of the Les Vins Contés wines have had a special place in our TOFINO WINES history, Poivre et Sel was a wine that we poured for many vintages by-the-glass and it turned many of our customers on to the magic of the Pineau d'Aunis grape with it's easy to understand name that explains the grapes aromatics and finish BUT also natural wine in general. We sat with these wines for a long time before deciding to put this offer forward, 2020 was the last vintage of these wines before Olivier Lemasson's tragic passing in 2021. This is really a collector's set, something that will never come around again. 

R20 2020 (750 ml.) & R20 2020 (1.5L): A blend of Gamay/Cabernet Franc/Grolleau, this is a dry, fruity, medium-bodied wine.

Poivre et Sel 2020 (750 ml.) & Poivre et Sel 2020 (1.5L): A blend of Pineau d'Aunis/Gamay. Lean but expressive, with aromas of black cherry, blackberry, and ripe plums. On the palate, notes of clove and cracked white pepper add to the fruit of plush dark cherry. Medium acidity.
