Kolfok loosely translate to "an unconventional thinker". Winemaker Stefan Wellanschitz, the unconventional thinker behind this winery, was born into wine, with his historic family estate in Neckenmarkt dating back to the early 19th century (when Burgenland belonged to Hungry, not Austria) Marking a clear break from his family's traditional style, Stefan launched his own wine project in 2013 with a more natural, low-tech approach to winemaking that showcase the soils and unique character of the region.
It is 100% organically farmed Blaufrankisch from a cool north facing vineyard. Volcanic soils. Destemmed, intracellular fermentation. Aging takes place in large used Austrian barrels. No additives at all, aged without stirring the lees.
Light-bodied and fresh, with notes of bright cherry, cranberry and spice, this is a bright example of Kolfok's clean and non-interventionist winemaking style.
