Type: White Wine
Grape: Sauvignon Blanc
Julien Pineau took over half of the legendary Clos Roche Blanche estate in Touraine when Catherine Roussel decided to retire in 2015. He had cut his teeth working with producers like Noella Morantin and Bertrand Jousset in the Loire and at Les Terres Promises in Provence, before embarking on his own project. Substance is his Sauvignon Blanc bottling. Grapes come from organic vines aged 45-70 years. 24-hour maceration, then pressed and left to ferment slowly in neutral barrel for 7 months, before aging for a further 8 months on lees. Never racked, and no sulfur added at any stage.
Ripe and round with rich tropical fruit and deep, musky spice tones, this stunning wine has impeccable balance and mineral focus. This wine shares more in common with a richly textured Chenin Blanc than the typical Loire Sauvignon Blanc.
