Elisabetta Foradori has become one of Italy’s superstar winemakers. Without a doubt, she is Italy’s finest producer of wines made from the Teroldego grape variety, one of the country’s oldest and finest traditional grapes. The Teroldego grape is genetically related to Syrah, and here in the northern Trentino’s mountain valleys it achieves its potential in the subzone known as the Campo Rotaliano. All the Foradori vineyards lie in the side valley of Campo Rotaliano, and it is from these beautiful vineyards that Elisabetta Foradori is quietly producing some of Italy’s most complex, deep and compelling red wines.

Local dialect for "vine shoot", "Sgarzon" is a cooler, sandier 2.5 hectares within the whole Foradori vineyard around the winery, in the foothills of the Dolomites. Elisabetta planted the vines in guyot from massale cuttings in 1984. The farming is certified-biodynamic and the harvest is by hand. The bunches are de-stemmed, with the grapes going directly into clay amphorae for an open-top, spontaneous fermentation without sulfur; the vessels are then closed for 6-8 months of maceration. The wine is bottled without fining or filitering and with a minimal dose of sulfur.

Vibrant wild-berry, wild-herb and savory aromas. On the palate, there are notes of crushed strawberries, roses and sweet smoke. Expressive and lifted, with good acidity and ripe mineral-tinged red berries.
