We are happy to be able to offer a rare set of Domaine L'Octavin wines from the 2020 vintage as part of our cellar raid to celebrate our 8th Anniversary of TOFINO WINES, Alice Bouvet's wines are some of the most exciting wines coming from the Jura today. This extends from her commitment to biodynamic farming and her playful mix of different wines and identities. She gets it and we love the wines that she releases every year!
We have only one 6 Btl Set -8th Anniversary set of L'Octavin wines available, and most of these wines are long SOLD OUT in the market so jump on it if you are also an Octavia fan.
Here is a little background:
Despite having trained in Bordeaux and Burgundy, winemaker Alice Bouvot knew that when it came to start her own domaine, the Jura would be the place. In 2004 she started from scratch, buying a small cellar in the village of Arbois and a couple of hectares of vines in the hills surrounding. Alice now farms around five hectares of Chardonnay, Savagnin, Poulsard, Trousseau and Pinot Noir, with holdings in some of the region’s very best lieu-dits. Vineyard work is done by hand, with biodynamic farming used to maintain biodiversity in the vineyard. Since 2009 all L’Octavin wines are made with no additives at all. Most of the wines are fermented and aged in fiberglass or steel tanks, but only at the ambient temperature of the cave. Most of L’Octavin wines are made to reflect single plot expression.
After a number of lean vintages, Alice had to look further afield to make ends meet and now harvests grapes at trusted friends’ properties all over France, making an equally exciting range of négociant wines.
Hip Hip J...2020: Savagnin from Arbois, macerated as whole bunches for two months, followed by a year of rest in cuve and then a short élevage in large oak casks. Exotic fruits, light tannins and a touch of spice. A beautiful, cleansing acidity adds further complexity to this wine.
Joker 2020: Joker is a direct press of Jacquère from Alice’s friends at Mas des Abymes in the Savoie, aged in cuve until the following spring. At just ten percent of alcohol, it is lifted and refreshing, heady with wild, tropical fruit and a slight spritz.
P'tit Poussot 2020: Direct press Chardonnay, spontaneous fermentation in fiberglass with indigenous yeasts. Aged in fiberglass and bottled unfined and unfiltered, with no added sulfur. A fresh and easygoing wine with brisk fruit, hazy minerality and a clean salty finish.
Corvees de T...2020: Semi-carbonic 2 month maceration, spontaneous fermentation in tanks with indigenous yeasts. Aged in tanks and bottled unfined and unfiltered, with no added sulfur.
Cariboom 2020: Carignan/Grenache blend. Fruit for this wine comes from the biodynamic vineyards of Claude Ughetto in the Vaucluse. The Carignan was infused gently as whole bunches for three weeks, while the Grenache was de-stemmed and spent five weeks on skins. After pressing, the wines were assembled in cuve to rest until the following spring. The result is a light, bright and aromatic wine with notes of red cherry, citrus and bitter herbs.
Elle Aime 2020: A blend of Pinot Noir & Chardonnay, 50% destemmed, 50% whole cluster fermentation. Two months of maceration, spontaneous co-fermentation in vats with indigenous yeasts. Aged in vats and bottled unfined and unfiltered, with no added sulfur. Notes of wild strawberry, bay leaf, white pepper and mint.
