Cantina Giardino was created in 2003 by a collective of friends looking to restore old vineyards of indigenous grape varieties in their native region of Campania, Italy, which they believed to be threatened by industrial winemaking. Headed now by Daniela and Antonio de Gruttola, Cantina Giardino farms about six hectares of Aglianico, Greco di Tufo, Fiano di Avellino, and Coda di Volpe.
The soils in this area are volcanic and rich in minerals. Farming is done by hand and the cellar work is careful and slow--long skin macerations for both red and whites generally take place in a combination of local wood casks and clay anforas. These vibrant, highly drinkable wines are a very personal expression of Daniela and Antonio's respect for the region's agricultural traditions.
