This set includes 2 Vintages of two different highly-sought after Contradas wines from Arianna Occhipinti, plus other special bottlings. There is ONLY one set available, coming from deep in the TOFINO WINES cellar released at this to celebrate our 8th year in business.

One of Italy's most sought-after organic/biodynamic producers, Arianna Occhipinti produces exceptional Sicilian natural wines made with native grapes like Frappato and Albanello. “Contrada” is a word used to identify a small district in the Italian countryside, and so Occhipinti’s “Vini di Contrada” are intended to highlight the soil and potential of various districts in and around her home base of Vittoria, in Sicily.

PT 2017 & PT 2019: Frappato “PT” belongs to the line of single-vineyard wines of Contrada Vittoria di Arianna Occhipinti. It comes from the oldest and most historic (organic) vineyard, named Pettineo, where sapling vines over 60 years old grow. Fermentation with indigenous yeast in cement tanks with contact with the skins. Aged some months in large, old oak barrels. These wines have a juicy, refined and very delicate body, enriched by aromas of small red fruits and Mediterranean herbs. Fruit-driven, floral and spicy, with silky tannins and lively acidity.

BB 2017 & BB 2019: Bombolieri is on a very limestone promontory overlooking the Serra San Bartolo. The terrain here varies from brown to white, but the surface sand layer is quite thin. Just below are solid limestone rocks. A part of the district has a more clayey-calcareous soil, visually white on the surface, and it is here that this wine comes from. Occhipinti Frappato Contrada Bombolieri is a single vineyard red wine that reveals aromas of cherry, raspberry and redcurrant on the nose, accompanied by notes of flowers, spices and Mediterranean herbs. On the palate, it expresses an extraordinary balance between lightness and juiciness, strength and a good tannins. This wine is delicate, elegant and full of freshness.

SM 2020: This Grillo is from the Santa Margherita contrada, a property she acquired and planted in 2016. Aged for a year in large Slavonian oak and bottled unfined and unfiltered, this is a complex white, with intense  aromas of citrus and white flowers. Alcohol and acidity are in perfect balance, and the wine has a long, dry mineral finish.

Passo Nero 2017: Each year, Arianna uses the same few rows of healthy Nero d'Avola clusters in her Fosso di Lupo vineyard and leaves them to sun-dry for 15 days for her passito-style wine. The organically farmed, hand-harvested fruit is then destemmed, crushed and fermented with indigenous yeasts, with a week-long skin maceration. The wine is aged in a 750-liter tonneau for 16 months before being bottled unfiltered, and held for 6 more months before release. Extremely limited production. 500ml bottle. Concentrated dark ruby red color with aromas of red fruit jam, licorice and chocolate. This wine is sweet with a finely balanced acidity that keeps it alive through the very persistent finish.

Please Note: Because of the extremely limited nature of these rare wines, all sales are considered final.
