Sebastien Riffault Les Quarterons 2018

no added sulfur

Country: France

Region: Loire

Type: White Wine

Grape: Sauvignon Blanc

Sébastien Riffault, son of winemaker Etienne Riffault, began his own label in 2002. The big difference between him and the rest of Sancerre is his belief in biodiversity and biodynamic principals and natural winemaking. Riffault’s wines are unique in the Sancerre world, but a strong reflection and true test of his vineyards and soil. His Sancerre wines are not like the mainstream ones due to the fact that he lets the fruit hang on the vines for longer than his neighbors, but no less delicious, while showcasing his 12 hectares near Sury-en-Vaux.

The organic/biodynamically farmed vines are 30 years old. The wine is fermented in stainless steel for 24 months. In spite of the crisp, intense acidity, all of the wines undergo complete malolactic fermentation. The wines are aged on their lees and are not filtered or fined. A minimal amount of sulfur is added to Les Quarterons at time of bottling.

Bright, with intense minerality and notes of melon, ripe pear and herbal notes.
