Syrah is the grape Bryn and Jeffrey at Ellsworth Wines are most passionate about, and they believe the granite rich soils of Sierra Foothills and the California sun create the perfect home for the varietal. The 2019 Syrah is about 2/3 Syrah from their home vineyard in Penn Valley and 1/3 Syrah from the Renaissance vineyard in Oregon House, CA. Both vineyards are farmed naturally without the use of pesticides, herbicides or chemical based fertilizers. They are both dry-farmed and produce intensely flavored Syrah. The grapes were macerated for 1 week before pressing them off to neutral French barrels.
A big, full-bodied wine, the Syrah is very well balanced with tannin, acid and fruit, and loads of character.
